York Hospital Job Shadowing

Student shadowing program guidelines

Shadowing is observation only.	There is no hands-on experience with the shadowing program
Age limits	You must be at least sixteen (16) years of age to participate in the York General Shadowing Program. Any prospective participate under the age of nineteen (19) must have a guardian signature on the designated forms.
Shadow areas	A student may state three (3) areas they wish to shadow on the application. We will attempt to place the student in their preferred occupation, but first choices may not always be available. Radiology shadowing is usually best in the morning as more procedures are done then due to patients being unable to eat before the procedures. We have very few pediatric patients, so we are not able to provide experience in that area. Shadowing is done in 1-2 hour blocks, but can be longer if approved by the Department Head.
Recommendations	Please eat before you come to the hospital. You will not be allowed to leave and then return while shadowing. Participants need to provide their own transportation to the shadowing location. Personal valuables should be left outside the facility Cell phones will not be allowed in any patient care areas. If you will be here over a mealtime, you will need to bring money to buy lunch or snacks in the cafeteria. York General is a smoke-free campus.
Notes	It may take several days for a background check to be returned for forms to be approved. Please plan to apply at least two weeks before planned shadowing experience. Forms are valid for six months after application.
